General editing information
I edit electronic documents, preferably in MS Word (clean with no tracking or comments) with double-spaced text and a 12-point serif font.
Documents may be sent via an attachment by email or via Dropbox if the file is larger than 10 MB.
Documents saved in jpg or graphic/picture format are not accepted.
I use standard UK English, plain language and the Oxford English Dictionary’s style guide for punctuation and formatting, unless otherwise specified.
I use the MS Word track change feature for comments and suggestions. You have the choice of accepting or rejecting the changes.
I highlight errors in PDF documents sent through for proofreading without affecting the layout. It will be your responsibility to effect the changes.
All work will be discussed with you and stipulated in my quotation. I will only commence work after receiving written acceptance of the quote and 50% down payment.
My quotations make provision for two drafts. Should you wish to change or add content after the final edit, additional costs will be incurred.
Rates depend on the type of service required and the length and complexity of a task. In most cases I will need to view the document before I can provide an estimate for my services. Click here for a guide to general rates.
Please submit your request for a quotation to email@example.com. When sending your sample or draft of the text for evaluation, please include the following:
- proofreading and editing: details of your request, deadline, target audience, word count, style guide if available, any other relevant information.
- academic editing: deadline, word count, style guide, style manual and referencing system, and/or any other relevant documentation. If your academic institution has set guidelines these must accompany your document. Reference checking generally remains the author’s responsibility, but if this is required additional costs will be incurred.
- writing, rewriting and copywriting: description of your requirements – deadline, story outline/synopsis, length, medium, theme, target audience, and any other relevant material.
- ghostwriting: this service entails a detailed, interactive approach – please contact me to discuss your requirements.
